Yemen's National Meteorological Center (NMC) warned Thursday of "serious impacts" of the tropical cyclone Sagar, which is heading to the west and south-west of the Yemeni coast, accompanied by thunder and wind.
The NMC said in a warning bulletin that "the Cyclone Sagar is moving towards the west and southwest of the coast of our country, accompanied by dense and moderate to heavy rain and wind speeds ranging from 38 to 43 knots, on the governorates of Socotra Archipelago, Mahra, Hadramout, Shabwa, Abyan and Aden."
It said that the warning was based on "the analysis of various maps of surface and upper weather, and follow-up satellite images and reports from regional and international centers."
It added that the hurricane is likely to move to the west and south-west of the Yemeni coast at an altitude of 11 km per hour, with moderate to heavy thunderstorms on the southern and eastern coasts and inland areas.
